The Fed raised interest rates essentially to corral inflation. Since 2020, consumers have lost about 30% of their purchasing power. The Producer Price Index is up 10% over the trailing 12 months and those are inflationary pressures coming down stream to the consumer level in the months ahead. The Federl Reserve is trying to stem those pricing pressures ahead of time.
